Review of Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus

Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the IlluminusPhantasy Star Universe had a few flaring flaws in the original title: a lackluster storyline, heavy loss-rates for items and repetitive hack-and-slash gameplay. But they made up for it.

PSU AoI introduces several new features, mainly nostalgia relating back to Phantasy Star Online. The addition of PSO based clothing, areas, and timed-hits bring back what made PSO fun, and expands on it.Unfortunately, they did not fix the ratty ally AI, nor did they make it any less cheap with traps or enemies that seem just a tad faster. But the game is still fun, and the flexibility in weapons, clothing and hairstyles they have added make your Guardian completely customizable.I recommend only buying this if you play online, since that is part of the charm of the series.

Offline play does have its merits, even though the story is a carbon copy of Online's Episode 2.Also, it would've been more fun to be able to remodel your room and add more objects like in online play, but it is still solid.

Overall, I enjoyed it, and it is worth checking out, especially online.
