Review of Guitar Hero World Tour - Stand Alone Drums

I bought the GHWT full band set and those first generation drums were not of the best quality. Although they worked okay at first, they eventually stopped working properly. The bass pedal was plastic, felt flimsy and I damaged the sensor pad inside of it within 2 days.I recently bought the stand alone drums and they seem to be a little bit better. The cymbals seem to be much sturdier. All drum pads and cymbal pads are covered with a nice smooth skin that feels good and sounds a little bit quieter than the original rubber drum pad material. This drum kit is really accurate so far. Its sensitive enough and I haven't had any crosstalk issues yet (crosstalk = when you only hit the orange cymbal, the red pad also registers a hit).

My only complaint is that the same plastic crappy pedal is used in this kit. It doesn't feel too sturdy, but it has withstood a pounding by my fat and heavy size 11's.Red Octane did improve the bass pedal sensor a bit by adding the same skin material as the pads and cymbals. It looks like it is some kind of protective layer for the sensor pad underneath it. I think I am going to buy an upgraded electronic bass pedal so I can feel more comfortable bangin that thing with my fat feet. That will also give me the option to have some double bass action.

The kit comes with some cheap balsa wood drumsticks. I suggest sticking with these sticks, because heavier sticks will probably destroy this set with moderate pounding. I can bang on the set as hard as want with these sticks and because they are so light, I don't feel like I am going to break the set.

Overall, I am satisfied with this new drumset. I have had it for about a week now and it's still working well. I just hope it holds up for a while this time around.

Review of Guitar Hero World Tour - Stand Alone Guitar

Guitar Hero World Tour - Stand Alone GuitarI own the corded Guitar Hero II guitar, the wireless Les Paul from Guitar Hero III, the Rock Band 2 guitar, and this guitar from Guitar Hero World Tour.I've played these guitar games starting when Guitar Hero II came out for the Xbox 360.I play both GH and RB pretty equally and love both games so I'm not here to put RB or GH down like a fanboi.

By far this is the most responsive guitar of them all.Strumming is quick and effortless and just feels right compared to the other guitars.I'm so used to the responsiveness that when I play with other guitars it puts me at a disadvantage and I mess up more.

I also prefer how this guitar--like the other Guitar Hero guitars--have slightly raised buttons for the frets (the colored buttons on the neck) as opposed to the Rock Band guitars which are sunken. It's much easier to slide up and down with the GH guitars.

At first I thought the slider button was a stupid gimmick, but after I learned to keep my left hand on the regular frets and use my right hand (that I usually strum with) on the sliders it is a lot more fun.I actually look for songs that feature the sliders now.It really adds to the "rocker experience" when you're tapping the slider bar.

In the end, I recommend this guitar just for the simple fact that it feels better playing in your hand.I've had it the 1st day Guitar Hero World Tour came out and I've never had any problems with it.I'm not saying there aren't any problems, just saying for me this instrument has been solid and a joy to use.

Review of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2Its fun, i am still just getting into the game play.I played X-Men Legends II extensively and this is very much based on the same structure, from team play/rotation, speacial moves and powers and the tag team super moves.Because it is played in a 3D environment and you don't use a thumb joystick to move, the staircase movement can be frustrating while attempting to manuever a narrow path. The characters also havea tendency to stack up on each other preventing movement.

Over all a good time, a great marvel adventure that is fun to engage in.

Review of Guitar Hero Smash Hits

Guitar Hero Smash HitsGuitar hero world tour was a fantastic concept which incorporated the drums, microphone, guitar and bass together to make team play absolutely incredible. We enjoyed the initial song list and game play well enough but suffered through some songs just to move on in game play.I will have to echo the sentiment of some of the other reviewers by saying the song content could be better.I can not tell you how many times I would hear a song on the radio and would state how it would be nice to have that song on GHWT.
I eagerly anticipated the Smash Hits collection because we were burned out on the songs from GHWT.The list of songs on Smash Hits was supposed to be compiled from the best of the Guitar hero series and this is where Smash Hits fails.I am already tired of the song list and have moved back to the original.
To sum it up"Release some good music for this game platform or it will die"Or make the songs for the Wii compatible with the rock band songs and I would play them. Either way get a better song list for the Guitar Hero World Tour Band system.

Review of Monsters vs. Aliens

Monsters vs. AliensThe kids enjoyed playing it the first couple of times, but now it is relegated to a dusty spot on the shelf.Unlike some of the Lego games (Batman, Indiana Jones) which they play constantly, Monsters vs Aliens is just another game.

Review of Secret Service: Ultimate Sacrifice

Secret Service: Ultimate SacrificeSecret Service Ultimate Sacrifice is literally filled with constant timed puzzles. For the average gamer just looking for a first person shooter, this can completely stop down the enjoyment of the game and end up in total frustration. I have no idea why the makers of this game decided to do this.

In order to proceed through each level you must deactivate bombs and hack into computers. Each time you do this a mini game pops up with a circuit board puzzle that consists of power sources, circuit chips, and connectors. You are supposed to keep flipping each chip and connector around until all of the circuit chips light up. And, you must do this each time in about less than one minute! This can really get frustrating with each puzzle getting more difficult and each time the mini game ending in a bomb exploding or failure to hack a computer.

Each of these puzzles is random too with the power source and chips in different locations so a walkthrough would not help at all. There are no cheat codes for these highly annoying puzzles either. The game maker should have at least given the option to turn off the timer but no. Even on the easiest difficulty you must solve these in a matter of seconds. And there are a bunch of these everywhere. You can't complete each level until you solve these.

But, there is a solution to the timed puzzle thing. You can run a trainer that will allow you to freeze time while in the puzzles. There is a +8 Trainer out there with a "Freeze Time" option that works great. Just google it on the internet to find this trainer. The graphics are good and the AI is really fun to shoot with very realistic movements. The weapons are good too. With the trainer, this is a much more enjoyable game.

Review of Cabela's Dangerous Hunts '09

Cabela's Dangerous Hunts '09This game is very difficult, but very addictive. There are many many things that are not in the guide and you have to learn on your own. When you play it the first few times do the career mode and save your hunts. The career mode kind of walks you through playing and you will not be as frustrated as I was when I got eaten by a lion for the 75th time. Also if you use the zapper, it is alot easier.Just make sure it is in zapper mode.(It will ask you.)I bought this game for my husband and have destroyed many of the levels along with him!It is seriously time consuming but so worth it!

Review of Kung Fu Panda

Kung Fu PandaLet me start off by saying that I am a 30 year old male and that I absolutely love this game. Normally I would not purchase games of this genre, but since i loved the movie so much, I went ahead and picked it up. This game has great depth, believe it or not, and has good replay value. The graphics and controls are amazing and the fun factor is top notch, mos def. I recommend this to anyone of any age, If you are an experienced gamer, then I would set the difficulty level to dragon warrior, but the normal setting is still a good challenge. I promise that you will not be upset with your purchase of this game.

Review of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2I typically am a FPS guy, but I LOVE MARVEL. One of my favorite games of this generation is MUA. I've played through it about 6 times and unlocked and collected every possible item. MUA had tremendous variety as it followed a story created specifically for the game that allowed to introduce a hodge podge of characters in different locals.I had super high expectations for MUA2. I can't say that I'm dissapointed, but I don't think it's as good as it's predecessor.

I'll start with the presentation. The characters look great. The specialty "fusion" moves also look awesome and allow for some moments that will remind you of battles straight out of the comics. The environments on the other hand are really bland. The nature of the game, a level grinder, means you have to see a lot of the same enemies. MUA had you traversing all over the Marvel universe, so each level had a fresh look. You can't really plan on battles in space when most of the story takes place in an urban environment. The cut scenes are okay. Some are terrible, some are pretty cool, nothing on par with Square Enix to drop your jaw.

The gameplay is similar to MUA with the exception of the commands and fusion moves. You can no longer direct your heroes into battle, which means they do a lot of following you around. I can't remember a teamate disabling a shield or taking the initiative to attack enemies that were surrounding me. At times they were practically useless. I played through twice, once on casual (easy) with my yongest son and once on difficult. On the higher difficulty level, there were times I wanted to chuck my controller because the teamates stood around and watched me die. Another new touch that I like is being able to swap squadmembers on the fly. As long as they are not dead, you can switch out, so if you really want Storm and Iceman's fusion for a paticular level, put them in. If heavy hitters are working, grab Luke Cage and Thing. Several characters are locked throughout depending on wich side you choose, so playing through twice is a must. That really adds to the replay value because you do get some differnt boss battle and looks at the levels.

I didn't play online, but I did play with 3 players at home. Although it was easier having human teamates, there are times where it is nearly impossible to tell where your character is. Perhaps the game deserves credit for truly epic battles, but some of the boss battles are very dissorienting. The camera also doesn't pan far enough back and will warp you, a la Nightcrawler, to your squad. Unfortunately it will leave you open to attack or move you away from a supervillian you may have been attacking. Very frustrating.

I was also dissapointed in the unlockables. The number of characters is smaller. The are fewer costumes to unlock and they are purely cosmetic this time around. I've read the articles on IGN regarding the mountains of NPC's in the game (Non Playable Characters). In MUA, if you ran into someone, chances were pretty good that you were going not just going to play them, but unlock and upgrading two or more costumes with differnt abilities. Not so this time around. Obviously there are plans for downloadable content. The great thing about MUA2 is that it is REALLY fun. If Activision decides to release episodic DLC, MUA2 could have a long life span. Who wouldn't want to play Secret Invasion or World War Hulk? The game engine is there to make it happen. If it ends up being ten or fifteen dollars for a costume pack or three bucks for a new character, MUA2 will find its way to the shelf.

Ultimately, MUA2 is missing the variety, upgrading and customization of MUA. It feels like it took a step back away from RPG territory and more into brawler territory. It is a lot of fun to play, if not more stripped down. The DLC will end up being the key to how good MUA2 ends up being.
